- Cole Doss, 31, praised his flight attendant mom on a United Airlines flight in July
- His mother, Moya, was an airline employee for an astounding 45 years
- The mother-son duo hadn’t worked together on the same flight for two years
This is the heartwarming moment a United Airlines pilot yelled at his flight attendant mother as they worked together for the first time in two years.
Cole Doss, 31, praised mom Moya Hagerty Doss during the flight of Virginia to Madrid on July 25.
In front of all the passengers, Doss read his speech from a tablet as the passengers applauded him.
His mother, who was right next to him as he spoke, was visibly choked up and emotional at her son’s kind words.
“One of these flight attendants working with us today is not only an exceptional flight attendant, but also my exceptional mom.
“Today is the first time in two years that we have been able to work together at United.” He has been one of my biggest supports in life and my career as a pilot since my first flying lesson.”
Doss has been a United pilot for two years and took to Instagram to share the emotional moment on August 8.
His mother, Moya, has been employed by the airline for over 45 years.
Doss continued: “I am especially honored and excited to fly with her for the first time today and to share the experience with you all on our flight to Madrid. To my mother, I love you and to all on board, welcome aboard our family heaven.”
The caption that accompanied Doss’ Instagram post also tugged at the heartstrings.
“The highlight of my career came to life when I was able to go on a trip with my mom and fly with her for the first time! She was my biggest support in becoming a pilot.
We had the best trip to Madrid together. I will never forget this experience and everyone who made it possible,” Doss said.
United Airlines even commented on the post saying, “The family that flies together stays together! Thanks Mom!’
Moya said TODAY.com that her son’s announcement really surprised her. “I was taken aback. It was really, really sweet,” she added.
Aviation runs in the family as Doss’s father and sister are also flight attendants like his mother.
“I know my schedule about 24 hours in advance, and when I was assigned a flight to Madrid, I told my mom. She was originally booked on a flight to Tokyo and was able to change her schedule to work with me. She had never been to Madrid, so she was very excited,” Doss told TODAY.com.
Although it was a sweet moment, Doss was a little “blown away” when he heard his mom assisting the passengers.
“During the break, Cole heard me and thought I was talking to him,” Moya said.
As well as spending time together during the flight, the mother-son duo made the most of their trip to Spain, exploring during the 26-hour layover.
Both stopped at El Palacio Real de Madrid and Plaza Mayor, two major landmarks in the area.
Above all, Doss wanted his mother to receive the recognition he felt she deserved, saying, “My mom has so many years of dedicated service as a flight attendant and as a mom.
“These two groups sometimes don’t get the credit they deserve.” Doss and Moya are already trying to coordinate their next work trip together in the sky.
