Howard Stern said he ended his friendship with Bill Maher after the HBO “Real Time” host made a comment about the radio shock jock’s habit of trashing his wife on air.
“(Howard Stern) talks about how much he loves his wife Beth, which he’s been talking about on the air for about 10 years,” Maher said on Monday’s episode of his Club Random podcast, during which he interviewed Julian. Lennon.
“But we know Howard had this second wife before BethMaher said, referring to Alison Berns.
The two divorced in 2001.
Maher, 67, has never been married.
“So they’re trying to make me look like I’m the slightly immoral one because I didn’t settle down,” said Maher, whose comments were This was reported by the Mediaite news server.
“Couldn’t we just blast past that person while the other person is still hearing it?”
Maher prefaced his remarks by telling Lennon, “I don’t want to fight him. We finally fixed our relationship… and we get along great.”
Not anymore, according to the 69-year-old SiriusXM shock jock who called his now-ex-boyfriend “sexist.”
“How sexist to say that!” Stern said Tuesday.
“Like a convoluted, crazy thing to say,” Stern continued.
“I suppose he knows something about my first marriage.
“Of course the man has to leave the woman, and the woman has to be devastated and sit around pining for her famous man,” Stern said.
“He should shut his mouth!” added the radio host.
“I don’t think I’m going to come on the air every day and say, ‘I love my wife,'” Stern said.
“But I thought it was a pretty positive message, especially with my audience, to tell guys instead of being mean to our women, how about we talk about appreciating them and loving them.” But he’s obviously very worried about my relationship,” Stern added.
The Post has reached out to Maher for comment.
In October 2019, Maher hosted Stern for his solo appearance on his HBO show “Real Time”.
During the segment, the two men said they were happy to have resumed their friendship after a long period during which they had been at loggerheads.
During the episode, Stern told Maher, “The only big difference between us is that I’m in a committed, loving relationship with a woman.”
Maher replied with a laugh, “So what? Enjoy it.”
“I don’t understand,” Stern replied, adding, “I know you’re a straight man.”
“What is it?” Stern asked. “Have you ever had a serious girlfriend? Because we can’t see you anywhere.”
Maher joked: “First of all, this is my interview with you. Sit down.”
When Maher, who said he “loves” being single, suggested that people who are married “don’t live,” Stern shot back, “I’m so happily married.
“People are so personal about this,” Maher said. “You’re not better and I’m not worse” because of the relationship status, the HBO host said.
“I’ve never understood how you can just be with the same person day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year, I just don’t get it,” Maher told Stern.
Maher has been linked to Canadian singer-songwriter Anjulie Persuad, former Playboy model Coco Johnsen, and podcast host Cara Santa Maria.
