Kevin Costner’s estranged wife Christine Baumgartner said she owes her divorce lawyers over $300,000, Entertainment Tonight reports, citing new court documents filed last week.

Last week, Costner’s lawyers responded to Baumgartner’s request that the “Yellowstone” star pay her what they say is $885,000 in legal fees, calling the bill “nothing short of outrageous.” Costner’s attorney, Parima Pandkhou, also noted that the 68-year-old actor already paid Baumgartner over $300,000 in legal fees in July.

In documents filed Thursday and obtained Fun tonightBaumgartner’s lawyers said she was asking for $855,000 — not $885,000 — and her request for more money is because the handbag designer owes her lawyers $314,113 “for past fees and costs.”

“He falsely claims that Christine’s $855,000 demands are ‘just in preparation for a November/December bifurcated trial,’ when in fact only a portion of the requested fees are earmarked for that purpose,” the documents state, according to ET’s report.

The remaining $541,887, according to documents cited by ET, is expected to go toward future expenses incurred in their divorce case.

Baumgartner’s lawyers also accused Costner of outdoing her in the divorce proceedings and said her request would level the playing field.

“Kevin’s attorneys are not providing any updated information on the fees and expenses Kevin has spent on this case. While Kevin claimed at the deposition that he had no idea how much he was spending, we learned from the documents that he incurred $644,000 in fees and expenses. ” by the end of July,” the documents read, according to ET. “He beats Christine 2-1, even though she’s an ‘extra-wife’.”

Baumgartner’s lawyers estimate Costner has spent more than $850,000 so far on legal fees, including a recent child support hearing held between late August and early September, ET reports.

The documents added: “The Family Code mandates that litigation must be conducted on a level playing field with respect to attorneys’ fees and costs… If there is to be any semblance of a level playing field in this case, Kevin should be enjoined. by the court to pay Christine past and future fees in one lump sum no later than September 21, 2023.”

The actor’s lawyers, responding to a request for more money last week, argued that he spent more on court fees during the trial than Baumgartner because of his estranged wife.

“The amount Kevin suffered cannot be a talisman of how much Christine should be awarded in fees,” Costner’s attorney wrote. “This is because Kevin has been forced to spend significant legal fees as a result of Christine’s uncooperative behaviour.

Representatives for Costner and Baumgartner did not immediately respond to Insider’s requests for comment.

Baumgartner filed for divorce from Costner in May after 18 years of marriage.
